The Swan's Illusion

Swans mate for life, and rarely do they separate. I was travelling for a few weeks, and when I visited Sonsbeek towards the end of spring, I noticed the male swan was no where to be found. I waited for weeks, even contacted a few places for help. It's been several months now, and no one seems to know where he has gone, and that has been a difficult feeling to deal with. In the meantime, the female swan grew a bit isolated. Regardless, I'd always wave to her. Eventually, whilst I was sitting on one of the benches near her, she made a soft little sound at me, for the first time, and peacefully sat down.

I wish I knew what happened to the other swan, but I suppose that's just the way life goes. I still stop by and say hello to her, and she still makes the amicable little sound, but of course, I won't ever really know whether she is alright.
